  4. Since the only project I’m working on right now is under wraps, I thought I’d post some pictures from the inedible part of the garden. It’s a newer obsession, but I inherited it from my parents. I never in a million years thought I would be into gardening. We’ve been having afternoon cake and tea/coffee breaks out on the balcony. I seem to have mostly outgrown my seasonal allergies and have never appreciated this time of year more than I do now.
The little nugget on the bottom is Robbie.

  5. An open letter to my LGBT’s and anyone else who has been made to feel like shit because of something someone else said or did.
Amendment 1 is being voted on in my former home state today, and regardless of what happens in the polls (today or any day), just remember:
You don’t need the government, society, your peers, or your family to approve of who you are. If someone else has a problem with who you are and treats you like shit because of it, it’s a reflection of their own self worth. You shouldn’t internalize their opinion of you because it actually has nothing to do with you at all. Their insecurities are theirs to deal with, so don’t let them pawn their shortcomings off onto you. Instead, invest in your future by spending your time and efforts towards relationships and skills that will enhance your quality of life. Finding them is one of the most challenging but infinitely rewarding experiences that exists, and hate has no power over you if you accept the challenge. The things people say about you do not define who you are or forecast your future. It is entirely up to you.
If someone is telling you that you don’t deserve the kind of love and success that you want and is rightfully yours, they are a fucking loser, and you should pity them for everything that their narrow scope has caused them to miss out on. Anyone that treats you poorly for being gay (or any other minority for that matter) is lazy, selfish, and boring. You can take away their power by refusing to take their opinions on board.
There is enough love and opportunity available in this world to enable you to be yourself and live your life however you want, every single day — to accept love, success, happiness, and respect without guilt or hesitation. All of the ballots and bigots in the world combined do not have the power to take that away from you – so don’t let them.
Love,Jon Knox
